Swim lessons, a tragic failure. But luckily, there are picnics.

This summer we signed Isaac and Noelle up for swim lessons. Isaac was nervous. He hates getting his face wet. Let's just say bathtime with him is a delicate operation. Forget showers. Anyway, we knew this would be a struggle, but I was so angry with the teachers. Both Isaac and Noelle did not pass the class because they didn't like to get their faces wet (even though Noelle doesn't mind in the least and is actually really brave in water), but I watched the entire time as the teachers would demonstrate how to do something in the water, and then tell the kids to do it. In Isaac's class there were 12 kids and if one of them (Isaac) was doing it wrong, the teachers didn't even bother to correct him. If he was scared about getting his face wet, instead of challenging him, they ignored him. I was confused. Isn't that a pretty common thing for kids to be scared of swimming at first? I mean, shouldn't they make some sort of effort to work with the kids?
Okay ranting over. Next time around I'm going to get them private swim lessons. Okay, here they are at the pool. Isaac's class on the left and Noelle's on the right.

Isaac is on the far left, sitting on the edge of the pool, pouting and being ignored.

Noelle is looking right at me.

There is a park right by the pool, and afterward we had a picnic there.
Laura, pointing at the baby ducks.

Lincoln, opening the string cheese bag for me, the weakling mom.

Noelle and her granola bar.

Duck and babes.

Fourth of July, boring style.

The Fletcher family tradition of breakfast at IHOP, in which every year we ask ourselves why did we choose that place?
And the small town parade, followed by dinner at Steve's boss's house (no pictures) and fireworks later (also no pictures).

Wow, is this post ever anti-climatic. I promise we are more patriotic than we seem.

Go USA!
